About the opportunities with Volleyball Calgary

In the evolving landscape of youth sports, non-profit organizations like Volleyball Calgary are recognizing the value of investing in professional support. The traditional model, where local community centers relied on volunteer parents to run programs, is gradually being replaced. The role of a sport convener at the community level was a demanding one, involving tasks such as securing permits for practices, scheduling venues for games, coordinating referees, and continually recruiting parent-volunteers to coach. This volunteer-driven system, while a cornerstone of Canadian youth sports for decades, is giving way to a more structured and professionalized approach modeled after European-style sports clubs.

The club system enables a more entrepreneurial approach to youth sports. Coaches can launch clubs much like starting a small business, with opportunities to grow the club by attracting other skilled coaches. This incentivizes continual improvement in program delivery, leading to higher quality training and development. However, with this shift comes higher costs, as the traditional community-based sports model was often more affordable for families. Along with the increased fees come heightened expectations for service and program quality.

In today’s competitive environment, youth sports organizations must deliver exceptional service across all aspects of the participant experience. This includes providing easy access to program information on the website, keeping families updated on team activities via social media, offering a range of programs that meet the diverse needs of young athletes, and efficiently managing general administration, bookkeeping, and digital marketing.

To achieve this level of service, Volleyball Calgary requires a team of dedicated and skilled individuals. We are always looking to connect with people who are passionate about youth sports and want to join us in delivering top-tier programs. Financial compensation is provided for all roles, as we strive to build a professional, committed team.
